jorud & The Purest Blue – “The song”

If you’re trying to learn more about the Asian indie pop scene, there’s probably no better entry point than the Singaporean band Sobs. Browse through the credits of a lot of up-and-coming bands and you’ll find their fingerprints all throughout the region – its members have produced, mixed, contributed vocals to many fellow musicians’ projects, and toured with countless members of the scene. A lot of that has to do with Sobs’ effervescent sound that feels future-thinking while taking cues from a lot of 2000’s internet pop.
Today, Jared Lim, one of the masterminds behind Sobs, is releasing “The song” under his solo-project moniker jorud. It’s the title track off of his upcoming album of the same name, and it’s a joyfully futuristic indie pop song that’s buzzing with delight. “The song” is mastered by Kin Leonn (one of yeule’s main collaborators) and features vocals from Filipino musician The Purest Blue, who contributes sugary sweet lyrics in Tagalog as well.
Building with the 2000s clip art vibes of the artwork, “The song” gives off the same fizzy energy as the Jazz design that was so popular back in the day – there’s a simplicity to it that gives its listener a rush of joy. If you’re a fan of cutesy J-pop like Serani Poji or even the Maplestory BGM, “The song” is for you.
brb, i guess i’m off to the chat room… c u ther??? ^___^
The song (the album) will be out on July 17, 2025.
