Announcing the From the Intercom SXSW Fundraiser (February 21 – February 27, 2022)!
From the Intercom is now three-and-a-half years old. Can you believe it?
In that time, we’ve done a number of things that we’re proud of: extensive film festival coverage, numerous artist spotlights, and our crazy extensive year-end articles, just to name a few. However, without a doubt, one of our favorite events to cover each year is SXSW — a festival that combines the independent spirit of music and film festivals into one big hodgepodge of an event. Some of our favorite discoveries over the years were actually due to SXSW’s extensive programming, which often invites attendees to discover the next big artists with ease. Most of the time, it’s the other way around. The artists who we cover on our site year-round are usually well-represented on their lineup.
In the past, our coverage of the event was always virtual or unofficial. But for the first time this year, a few of us are finally planning to touch down in Austin, Texas in-person, and officially cover the best of what’s to come straight from the source. To do that, we’ll need your help!
From the Intercom has always been volunteer-run, and each of our articles are contributed by a core group of enthusiastic writers who want to see ourselves in the media that we consume. This site is a labor of love, but unfortunately passion alone is not often enough to pay for the time we spend writing on the site, nor travel fees.
That’s why, for the first time ever, From the Intercom will be hosting a fundraiser to help offset our site maintenance fees, as well as some of the cost of our coverage this coming March. Our total goal for this campaign? $5000.
From February 21, 2022 through February 27, 2022, gaming editor Justin Ricafort and I (Li-Wei Chu) will be streaming live on his Twitch Channel, sleepyjuppy, in order to raise funds for the site and our upcoming trip. We’ve programmed a handful of interviews with close friends and creatives who represent the three key components of our site — film, music, and gaming — all throughout the week. On the final weekend, expect to hear from the writers that represent From the Intercom. We’ll be talking to the site’s writers live on stream, giving you a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes, and what makes us tick!
As an extra donation incentive, we’re also going to be raffling off a few items throughout the weekend. I’ve dipped into my own personal record collection and will be giving away a few of my recent favorite vinyl records.* Extra Year 1 zines that I have, and possibly a gift card or two, will also be raffled off.

This article will be updated with the detailed lineup for each day very soon. Check back here often for updates.
We want to continue to provide you with quality content, From the Intercom style, so that our current financial model can be sustainable. With your help, we can keep From the Intercom independent and ad-free.
I hope to see you on the Twitch chat, and as always, thank you for reading and supporting the site.
-Li-Wei Chu, editor-in-chief of From the Intercom
*Note, raffle prizes are only available to donators in the USA. International shipping gets quite expensive, unfortunately.
Rating: $5000/5000, (hopefully). We also have a shiny new DONATE page that we’ve placed on our site, which you can find here.
Video directed, written and edited by Justin Ricafort, Gaming Editor/Fundraising Captain. Special thanks to Jacob Ugalde and Brian Kim for helping out with the video.
Li-Wei Chu is the chief editor of From the Intercom. When he’s not editing drafts and searching for new artists to cover for the website, he loves watching cult films, cooking, and listening to his ever-growing collection of vinyl records.
