Although somewhat under a cloak of anonymity in the virtual realm, Australian musician Aquila Young projects a commanding presence in her latest single, “Closer”.
“Closer” opens to a barely audible tinkling that slowly builds to encompass a striking drum beat and full-on orchestral accompaniment. Despite the beautifully composed instrumental that creates an atmosphere of tension and slight foreboding, it is only secondary to Young’s powerful vocals, which take center stage. Each line is delivered with a certain sureness and eloquence that few artists have the ability to achieve, yet it’s one that Young has already mastered. As the anticipation of the song surmounts, so does the desire to overcome whatever unseen force appears to be approaching.
“Closer” is the empowerment anthem we all need this year– and Aquila is here to cheer us on.
